Mairi: I would actually say that my community has grown during lockdown

‘I have drawn some plants on the back, as lockdown has been very “green”. I have bought more plants than normal & have enjoyed keeping them alive (not very successful though!)’ May 2021

Mairi is a twenty-five years old British marketing manager for a video game company. She is also a freelance Escape Room Designer. For the past three and a half years she and her husband, who is from Jordan and works for a local charity, have been renting a tiny one-bedroom flat in EC2. They both worked from home throughout the lockdown but they were well-prepared as they were already ‘living their lives online’. When they moved home, they invested in turning their flat is a ‘smart home’ and Mairi jokes that Alexa runs their lives; ‘she can control the TV, the sound, any of our electronics, it's like turn off or on, she does all the lights as well, so we never need to touch a switch.’ Mairi has several Instagram accounts ‘for loads of different aspects of her personality’, but not having the pressure of attending events, not ‘having to show that you are having fun’, was very welcome.
